Key Responsibilities
The Construction Carpenter is responsible for constructing, installing, repairing, and renovating timber structures and fixtures for residential and commercial construction projects. The role requires interpreting construction drawings and specifications, preparing and assembling building materials, erecting structural frameworks, and ensuring all work is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with Australian building codes and quality standards.
Study construction drawings, plans, and specifications to determine materials required, dimensions, and installation procedures.
Order and select suitable timber, hardware, and construction materials, and prepare layouts in accordance with project requirements.
Measure, mark, cut, shape, assemble, and nail timber and other building materials using hand and power tools.
Construct and erect wall frameworks, roof framing, partitions, staircases, and other structural timber components.
Install fascia boards, roof sheathing, exterior wall cladding, and door and window frames.
Assemble prepared timber components to form structures and fittings ready for installation.
Install doors, windows, skirting boards, architraves, cabinetry, and other timber fixtures as required.
Repair, renovate, or replace damaged timber structures and fittings while maintaining high quality workmanship.
Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with project specifications, Australian building standards, and workplace health and safety requirements.
Operate, maintain, and store carpentry tools and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
Work collaboratively with supervisors, builders, subcontractors, and other trades to ensure projects are completed on time and to the required quality standards.
Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work environment by complying with all workplace health and safety policies and procedures.
Qualification & Experience Required
MandatoryCertificate III in Carpentry or an equivalent recognised trade qualification. Relevant experience in residential and/or commercial construction. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications. Proficiency in using carpentry hand and power tools. Construction White Card (or ability to obtain).
DesiredExperience with timber framing and concrete formwork. Current driver's licence. Proficiency in using carpentry hand and power tools. Working at Heights and/or EWP certification
Essential Skills & AttributesExperience with timber framing and concrete formwork. Strong carpentry and timber construction skills. Excellent attention to detail and quality workmanship Good problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills. Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines. Strong commitment to workplace health and safety. Physically fit and reliable.
